The recent knockout of Brazil's team in the World Cup has shocked many Brazilians, who consider the 7-1 loss to Germany to be disappointing. Sporting events are widely considered a means to bolster national pride, and this is even more applicable for the country that hosts such events. And with President Rousseff up for re-election in October, she'll be facing many questions as to how the money spent on the World Cup could have been better allocated. The World Cup costs an estimated $11 billion in Brazilian taxpayer funds, and this excludes cost overruns. To say that Brazil's World Cup performance has been disappointing is an understatement, as the team suffered a severe defeat, and on its home soil, which makes matters worse.
Many fans and people in general have cursed Rousseff and the fact that the money spent could have been spent on infrastructure, health, and education, among others, would place the prospect of an additional term in question.
